The Punjab government has provided Rs 9.14 crore in loans, including Rs 1.46 crore in subsidies, to 522 beneficiaries under its financial aid scheme for Scheduled Castes and Persons with Disabilities.
The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has taken a significant step towards the economic and social upliftment of underprivileged communities. As part of its ongoing efforts, financial assistance of Rs 9.14 crore has been disbursed to 522 beneficiaries under the Scheduled Castes and Disabled Persons Welfare Scheme. This includes a subsidy of Rs 1.46 crore, according to Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minority Affairs Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized the government's commitment to empowering marginalized sections of society. The Punjab government aims to strengthen the social and financial status of economically weaker sections by providing loans at subsidized interest rates for self-employment and higher education.
Individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes aged between 18 and 55 years with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh are eligible for self-employment and higher education loans.
Persons with disabilities aged between 18 and 60 years, with a disability of 40% or more, regardless of their caste, can also apply for the loan scheme.
The primary objective of this initiative is to:
Provide financial support to Scheduled Castes and disabled individuals for self-employment opportunities.
Facilitate access to higher education by offering loans at subsidized interest rates.
Ensure equal employment and education opportunities for underprivileged communities in Punjab.
Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the Punjab government is actively working to create new opportunities for economically backward communities. The state has launched various schemes to uplift the standard of living and provide sustainable employment opportunities to marginalized sections.
The Punjab government plans to expand financial aid programs, ensuring that more underprivileged individuals benefit from self-employment and educational loan schemes. By implementing such initiatives, the government is fostering an inclusive and progressive economic environment in the state.
This move by the Punjab government highlights its commitment to economic empowerment and social justice, paving the way for a more financially independent and self-reliant community.
