Paris Paralympics 2024: Google Doodle Celebrates Powerlifting Event

As the Paris Paralympics 2024 unfold, Google has once again shown its support for para-athletes with a special doodle. On September 5, 2024, Google updated its doodle to celebrate the powerlifting event, showcasing a fun and creative design. The doodle features a chicken lifting a barbell at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle, with another chicken enjoying the scene from atop the barbell.


Google's Official Statement

On its official Google Doodle page, Google stated, "The wait is over, the weights are up. Get ready for today’s Para Powerlifting event at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle!" The powerlifting event, which began on September 4, will continue until September 8, with athletes competing in various categories.


Event Highlights and Rules

According to the official Paralympic website, para powerlifting is adapted for athletes with one or more of eight eligible physical impairments. All participating athletes must have an impairment in their lower limbs or hips that meets the minimum disability criteria.

Day 1 Results

On the first day of the competition:

  • Women's 45kg Category: China's L.L. Guo secured the first place, followed by Great Britain's J. Newson and Turkey's N. Muratli in second and third places, respectively.
  • Men's 49kg Category: Jordan's O. Qarada won the gold medal, with Turkey's A. Kayapinar taking silver and Vietnam's V.C. Le earning the bronze.
