Zoho Corp’s messaging app Arattai recorded a surge in daily sign-ups from 3,000 to 350,000 over three days, the company said on Tuesday.
The increase was reported on September 30, 2025, in Chennai, where Zoho is headquartered. Arattai, launched in January 2021, supports text, voice, and video communication, and operates on low-bandwidth networks, according to Zoho’s official website.
Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu said on X that the app’s traffic grew 100-fold in three days. “We are scaling infrastructure to handle another potential 100x surge,” Vembu said. The growth followed a post on X by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who on September 26 endorsed Arattai as “secure and user-friendly.”
The app ranked first in India’s social networking app category on September 28 and 29, according to app store data cited by Zoho. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also posted on X that they were using the app.
Zoho confirmed that Arattai provides end-to-end encryption for calls but is still developing the feature for text messages, as reported by the Hindustan Times on September 29. Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, posted congratulations to Zoho on X for the milestone.
Zoho said it is addressing server capacity issues but did not comment on future user projections. The company plans to roll out new features in November, according to Vembu’s statement.
