The San Francisco 49ers ruled out quarterback Brock Purdy, wide receivers Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall for Thursday night's Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams, team officials said.

Purdy suffered a toe injury in the season-opening win over Seattle and aggravated it after the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, missing Weeks 2 and 3 earlier this season. Backup Mac Jones will make his third start of the 2025 season, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 563 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in two prior wins.

The 3-1 49ers and 3-1 Rams meet at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, with the winner taking sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Both teams have dealt with injuries this season, including San Francisco's absences of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with a knee injury and tight end George Kittle with a hamstring issue.

Jennings sustained ankle and rib injuries during the Jaguars game, according to the team's injury report. Pearsall suffered a knee injury in the third quarter of that contest. Wide receiver Jordan Watkins also is out with a calf injury.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday of Pearsall's injury, "They're thinking more of like a minor PCL or something like that, is what our guess is. You know, just landing on it hard, so hopefully it won't be too bad."

Purdy said Tuesday, "If I can play this game, I want to play. Obviously, I want to get right and get healthy and everything, but we need to win this game against the Rams. So that's how I'm looking at it."

Jones aggravated a preseason knee injury in Week 3 but participated fully in practice this week and carries no injury designation, though he plans to wear a knee brace.

The 49ers expect to elevate practice squad quarterback Adrian Martinez as the backup. Officials from the 49ers were not immediately available for further comment on return timelines.
