A shocking incident in Hyderabad saw a man set fire to a petrol pump under the influence of alcohol, leading to chaos. He was promptly arrested, avoiding further damage.
In a shocking incident in Hyderabad’s Nacharam area on Saturday evening, a man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, set fire to a petrol pump after being dared by a bystander. The fire caused panic among customers and employees at the pump, though thankfully, no injuries were reported. The accused, identified as Chiran, has been taken into police custody along with a petrol pump employee, Arun, who reportedly challenged him.
The entire episode was captured on CCTV footage at the petrol pump around 7:00 PM. Chiran, visibly intoxicated, arrived at the station with a lighter in hand. Arun, one of the pump’s employees, confronted him, questioning his intentions with the lighter. Following a brief exchange, Arun reportedly taunted Chiran, daring him to light the lighter if he had the courage.
Taking the dare seriously, Chiran ignited his lighter near an active fuel dispenser, resulting in an immediate blaze. Customers, including women and children, as well as employees, scrambled to escape the rapidly spreading flames. Fortunately, the fire was controlled quickly, preventing any significant damage or injuries.
At the time of the incident, around 10-11 people were at the petrol pump, with fuel actively being dispensed to a customer’s scooter. As the flames spread, everyone rushed to safety, averting a potential disaster. The prompt response of the petrol pump staff and local authorities helped bring the situation under control swiftly.
Following the incident, local police reviewed the CCTV footage and arrested both Chiran and Arun. They are facing charges of public endangerment and causing disruption with potentially explosive materials. The authorities emphasized that such reckless behavior, especially in a high-risk environment like a petrol station, could have resulted in a much more severe incident.
This incident underscores the importance of caution at fuel stations, where flammable substances pose a significant risk. Reckless actions, particularly involving fire, can have disastrous consequences, putting both lives and property at risk.
The authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or reckless behavior, especially in sensitive public areas. Public safety officers are conducting inspections to ensure that petrol pumps and similar establishments adhere to strict safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
