In a shocking road tragedy in Uttarakhand’s capital, Dehradun, a city bus collided with a loader and overturned near Singhniwala on Shimla Bypass Road. The accident resulted in the death of a schoolboy and another individual, while 14 passengers were seriously injured.
According to initial reports, the city bus was en route from Vikasnagar to Dehradun when it rammed into a loader near Singhniwala. The impact was so intense that the bus overturned, creating panic among passengers and locals.
At the time of the accident, approximately 40 passengers were inside the bus—many of them schoolchildren returning home. The crash led to chaos, with cries for help and locals rushing to the scene for rescue efforts.
A school-going child and an unidentified adult were declared dead on the spot. Emergency responders rushed 14 injured passengers to Graphic Era Hospital in Jhajra for urgent treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that most injuries are critical, but stable.
Upon receiving the alert, teams from Sahaspur and Premnagar police stations arrived swiftly. SDM Vinod Kumar and Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir were also seen coordinating relief efforts at the scene.
Authorities employed a JCB crane to lift and straighten the overturned bus. Local residents played a crucial role in pulling victims from underneath the vehicle before rescue teams arrived.
Several passengers and bystanders reported that the bus was at high speed and overtaking vehicles moments before the crash. Officials have not yet confirmed the cause, but preliminary investigation points towards driver negligence or brake failure.
This tragic accident has reignited concerns about road safety in Dehradun, particularly in the Singhniwala area known for heavy traffic and frequent collisions. Parents and civil society groups have demanded a safety audit of city bus operations.
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh addressed the media stating,
“All victims are being given medical attention. A case has been registered, and investigation is underway. Strict action will be taken based on findings.”
The Dehradun city bus accident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for road safety enforcement and public transport regulation. With schoolchildren involved, this tragedy hits especially hard, urging authorities to act promptly to prevent such incidents in the future.
