India's stock markets—National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)—will remain closed on April 10, 2025 (Thursday) in observance of Mahavir Jayanti, a significant religious holiday celebrated by the Jain community.
As per the official holiday calendars of NSE and BSE, no trading will take place in the Equity, Equity Derivatives, or SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing) segments on this day.
According to the stock exchange circulars, April 2025 includes three stock market holidays:
Markets closed for a nationwide religious celebration.
A public holiday in honor of the principal architect of India's Constitution.
A Christian religious holiday observed across the country.
On April 4, 2025 (Friday), Indian stock markets plunged sharply due to heightened global tensions and negative investor sentiment.
BSE Sensex: Fell over 900 points, ending at 75,364.69
NSE Nifty 50: Dropped below the 23,000 mark, down by nearly 1.5%
The market was dragged down by fears following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of 27% tariffs on Indian exports, sparking a global sell-off.
The collective market capitalization of BSE-listed firms slumped by ₹9.5 lakh crore, now totaling ₹403.83 lakh crore.
