India reportedly uses BrahMos missile in precision strikes on over a dozen Pakistan air bases

In a significant military development, Indian armed forces are reported to have launched retaliatory precision strikes on multiple Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases early Saturday morning, potentially marking the first combat use of the BrahMos missile system.

Although no official confirmation has been issued by the Indian government or military spokespersons, defense sources indicate that the BrahMos cruise missile, along with advanced guided munitions and loitering drones, were deployed in the strikes targeting strategic Pakistani military installations.

Over a dozen key targets across Pakistan hit

According to credible military and diplomatic sources, the Indian Air Force (IAF) targeted several air bases including:

  • Rafiqui Airbase (Shorkot, Jhang)

  • Murid (Chakwal)

  • Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi)

  • Rahim Yar Khan

  • Sukkur

  • Chunian (Kasur)

  • Skardu

  • Bholari

  • Jacobabad

  • Sargodha

In addition, radar and surveillance facilities at Pasrur and Sialkot were reportedly hit using precision-guided munitions, rendering Pakistan’s early warning systems temporarily inoperable.

The operation is being viewed as a strategic counterstrike, possibly in response to prior hostilities or perceived cross-border provocations. Satellite images and initial intelligence assessments point to extensive damage at several of the targeted sites.

First-ever combat deployment of BrahMos

If verified, this marks the first operational use of the BrahMos missile in actual combat, a major milestone for India’s military capabilities. Co-developed by India and Russia, the BrahMos is regarded as one of the fastest and most accurate supersonic cruise missiles in the world, capable of being launched from land, sea, air, or submarine platforms.

The missile, known for its Mach 2.8 speed and pinpoint accuracy, has long been a symbol of India’s defense modernization. The potential use of the BrahMos in live combat not only showcases its reliability but also sends a strong signal of deterrence.

Pakistan remains tight-lipped

As of now, there has been no official reaction from the Pakistani military or government. However, unofficial sources and regional observers have reported heightened activity in air defense units across Pakistan. Emergency services were seen mobilizing near the affected bases, and civilian airspace in multiple regions was briefly suspended.

Regional analysts believe Pakistan may either downplay the scale of the damage or issue a measured diplomatic response to avoid escalation. However, the precision and reach of the Indian strikes have likely sent a clear strategic message.

Geopolitical implications and global reactions

International observers, including strategic think tanks and defense analysts, are closely watching developments. The reported use of high-tech Indian missile systems like BrahMos in live combat could alter the balance of deterrence in South Asia and provoke discussions at forums like the United Nations and the UN Security Council.

Nations such as the United States, Russia, and China have not issued formal statements yet, but diplomatic channels are said to be monitoring the situation. This incident may also influence regional military doctrines and defense procurement trends.
