BJP’s Moradabad Candidate, Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar, Passes Away Day After Polling
The BJP's candidate for Moradabad, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh, passed away on Saturday, just a day after his constituency participated in the first phase of the Lok Sabha election.
A veteran politician, Mr. Singh, aged 72, served as a five-time MLA and one-term MP. He had been unwell for an extended period and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi.
Political leaders from Uttar Pradesh, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressed their condolences, describing Mr. Singh's demise as an "irreparable loss for the BJP parivaar" (BJP family). Rajnath Singh tweeted, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of former MP of Uttar Pradesh, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh Ji. He was a grassroots leader and was very popular among the people. He also worked hard to strengthen the party. He believed in fighting for issues related to the people. May God give patience and strength to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed shock and sorrow, stating, “I am shocked to learn of the demise of our Moradabad candidate and former MP, Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh Ji. This is an irreparable loss for the BJP Parivaar. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with his family members and loved ones. I pray that Prabhu Shri Ram grants eternal peace to the departed soul while giving his family the strength and forbearance to bear this loss. Om Shanti!”.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Moradabad was won by Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate S.T. Hasan, while Mr. Singh emerged victorious in 2014. The constituency has approximately 48 per cent Muslim voters. In the 2024 election, Mr. Singh was competing against SP candidate Ruchi Veera and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)‘s Irfan Saifi.
