Ayushman Bharat for 70+ Launched by PM Modi - Get Your Card

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) for citizens aged 70 and above. This initiative, which was rolled out last month, aims to provide extensive healthcare coverage to senior citizens without considering their income levels.

Healthcare Coverage and Benefits

Under the scheme, all senior citizens aged 70 and above will receive free healthcare up to ₹5 lakh annually. This coverage includes both inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring comprehensive care for the elderly. The AB PM-JAY card issued under this scheme will grant beneficiaries access to a network of hospitals across the country.

How to Apply for the AB PM-JAY Card

To apply for the Ayushman Bharat card, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the PMJAY website.
  2. Click on "AM I Eligible" and verify your mobile number using OTP.
  3. Select your state and scheme.
  4. Provide your family eligibility details.
  5. Register yourself on the NHA’s Setu portal.
  6. Complete the KYC process and wait for approval.
  7. Once approved, download your Ayushman Bharat card.

Eligibility and Implementation

The scheme covers all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their socio-economic status. Those already benefiting from public health insurance schemes like CGHS, ECHS, or CAPF can opt for either their existing plan or the new AB PM-JAY. The initiative targets 6 crore senior citizens, including 4.5 crore families, to ensure they receive necessary medical treatments without financial burden.

Additional Top-Up Coverage

Senior citizens will receive an additional top-up cover of ₹5 lakh per annum, which will not be shared with family members below the age of 70. This ensures that older individuals have sufficient coverage for their healthcare needs.

Special Considerations for Couples

If both spouses are above 70, each will benefit from the ₹5 lakh coverage, and in case of medical expenses exceeding this limit, an additional ₹5 lakh will be provided. This aims to alleviate the financial stress on elderly couples requiring extensive medical care.

National Reach and State Involvement

The scheme is operational in several states, although it is yet to be implemented in Delhi, West Bengal, and Odisha. Discussions are ongoing to expand the scheme to these regions. The central government covers 60% of the costs, while the state governments cover the remaining 40%. States can also enhance the scheme with additional funding to provide better health services.

Conclusion

PM Modi’s launch of the Ayushman Bharat scheme for citizens aged 70 and above marks a significant step in expanding healthcare coverage for the elderly. By simplifying the application process and ensuring wide-ranging benefits, the scheme aims to improve the quality of life for senior citizens across India.
