I stand today in support of the 1.2 million students who have completed their Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) but are still unemployed. In 2017, the central government granted students D.El.Ed. subject. As a result, nearly 1.2 million students enrolled and completed the program.
However, the government later issued new guidelines stating that students who completed the two-year course in 18 months would still be eligible to teach. This created confusion and suspicion among the students.
What happened next?
In 2023, the Supreme Court ruled that D.El.Ed. At 18 months of age, the course did not equate to a full two-year program. As a result, students who completed the course within 18 months were deemed unfit to teach. This left 1.2 million students in a state of shock, as they only found themselves ineligible and unemployed after following government guidelines.
